"I'm going back." Bulma says it automatically, resolutely. It's been what she's been decided on from the moment they'd begun all this talk about being able to go back. She and Vegeta had spoken before about the state of things in their world when they'd left, but of course, Vegeta had left out a few gory details.
It's a smart move, considering how Bulma can be, but it doesn't mean she won't be mad about it when or if she finds out. Or try to bullheadedly solve it, one way or another.
"There's no other choice to make. I have my entire family waiting for me."
"I kinda figured." He says, awkwardly looking at the raccoon. "I don't know if you're goin' back to the one what's gonna cut ya off, or the one that'll allow for visitors. But uh..."
He holds out the raccoon plush.
"Somethin' I got a while back. This rat's the spittin' image of one of my good buddies back home. Another good stubborn scientist I knew. Figured your little girl might like it, if they let ya take nothin'."
It's about as gentle an offer as he can make. "Always best to come back to your youngun's with full hands. I always did."
“Knowing our world, it will allow visitors.” Bulma laughs at the thought. How many visitors from other places, other timelines had they met by now? Other universes would piss off Beerus and Whis, but she’s sure she could smooth it over if it wasn’t directly her own doing.
Yondu’s offering is touching. Bulma cracks a smile that’s softer, less determined and bright, knowing that this is a bit like Vegeta letting her see him fuss over their daughter. So she’ll take the little raccoon with a nod.
“Thank you. I’m sure Bulla will enjoy it.” Their kids want for nothing, but if nothing else it will be special to Bulma for another reason. “Once Trunks and Vegeta stop fussing, I’ll be sure to give it to her.” When she is done fussing over Bulla herself, of course.
"No body to go back to, so I'm just gonna go elsewhere."
He knows Vegeta, the Vegeta from the train, chose a path where Yondu's not ever gonna see him again. Nothing he can do about that. At least maybe he'll be able to speak to this Bulma.
"I got a chance to make the whole of the void my home. I've never been good for one spot."
The ministry seems dead set on keeping them, but as soon as he can find a way to get loose from that tie he will. Big untrustworthy government is big untrustworthy government in his opinion, and unlikely to change.
“Do you want to see if we can arrange it that you come home to my world?” Look. She’d brought an entire planet of Namekians to Capsule Corp to stay with her before. And a saiyan that literally everyone thought she was insane for offering a home to.
What was bringing home a single blue alien to the madhouse that was Capsule Corp’s compound, anymore?
“Vegeta will be grumpy about it at first but you already know how to get around all that.”
"Hey, if I can come visit ya, I will come visit ya. Just make sure you got a room waitin' on me."
He gives her a little bit of a cock-eyed grin, one to sort of counter how sad he is thinking that at least one half of the couple he's gotten to know on the train he won't be seeing again. But he's got Bulma, right? She'd still welcome him, right?
He's not losin' everyone. He's just gotta remind himself he's still got folks, he's not losin' everyone.
He holds his arm out for a hug. "Glad you and your family get to get reaquainted proper-like."
“We always have so much room, Yondu. Don’t worry about that.” She laughs at the thought that she wouldn’t have room, honestly, thinking to all of the large buildings on their compound and all of the spare rooms their friends used seemingly at random.
“I’ve hosted an entire planet of Namekians and an angry monkey of a saiyan prince all at one time - one of you isn’t going to put me out.”
Bulma gives the hug easily, gripping Yondu as tightly as she can and squeezing the same. She is happy too, but at the same time.. a little worried. Mostly about Bulla, if she’s honest.
“Yeah. I.. hope Bulla hasn’t grown up too much in the mean time. Trunks, too, but the last time I saw Bulla she was so little …”
The harder she hugs, the more genuine his is. Less of that tough guy facade. More of a guy that's lost his friends over and over again, and doesn't want to lose this one either. It's a genuine cling, and in the moment he's resting his cheek against her head he knows he's going to have to walk away first so he doesn't watch her go.
"She's a baby. You got time to grow on her all over again."
Yeah, babies can forget, but it doesn't take much to impress them all over again.
/brushes the dust off of this thread/ sorry i've been gone.. brain kinda went poof
"I think she may have to compete with her father and Trunks, for a little while." The placement of the names, there, is very much intentional. Vegeta wouldn't acknowledge it, nor would he show it to literally anyone in their life.. but she knew that if she's been missing for this long, she was going to have to shake him off like a clinging child every time they're alone for a while especially if she wants to get anything done or catch up on work outside of his usual training times.
Eventually, Bulma releases Yondu, and reminds him again.
"You are very welcome to come with me, Yondu. You can probably even largely avoid us and all of our noise if you move into the far end of the complex."
"The whole universe is my home. I couldn't ever settle nowhere for good. But I'll find y'all, I promise. I'll come lookin' as soon as I'm able."
He's even got plans. Find his girls. Find some kind of travelling job. Find Soldat. Maybe get the kids into a school that accepts people like them. That's just the top of the list, though. He has to take the train to the next stop, but once they get there he's out and finding the most independent way he can.
He leans in and gives Bulma a scratchy kiss on the cheek. "You get back to your family and tell 'em some fun stories about me." He'd believe it, if he knew what she was thinking about Vegeta. He even worries about how this one's gonna handle his return- he's not saying that out loud, though.
Thankfully Vegeta hasn't told her his worries about his return - she'll be angry to know he'd kept it from her, of course, but for the moment Bulma's ignorance is allowing her to be excited for them both to go home. Vegeta to his Bulma, and her to her Vegeta, who will no doubt spend as much time as he possibly can in private to fuss about where she's been and how she is, now.
Bulma sighs even as he kisses her cheek, fighting the urge to frown at not getting her way.
Yes, she's happy that he can live as freely as he wants, but there is no small part of her that kind of hoped he'd just agree. "I will. Just wait until you can meet my Universe's Trunks. You'll think he's a whole different kid."
He's lucky he's a mama's boy, is what she's saying.
"Seein' all these alternate universe folks I met? I'll be fully ready for it."
He might have hoped, somehow, that he'd be able to have Vegeta and Bulma together. The ones that knew him that is. That he could slide right into some kind of uncle role whenever he rode in and brought the kids something. But he's quick to accept things going worse rather than better.
He pulls his last little Ravager badge from his pocket, the ones that Della made for him way back when, and slips it into her hand. "Just in case it takes me a while to get there, I want ya to have somethin' to remember me by."
